Sustainable development

Sustainable development is an essential part of the whole programme. In 2016, 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development were adopted by world leaders and officially came into force. Following SDGs are addressed in our courses.

Entirely online

The programme's teaching activities consist of web-based lectures, seminars, project work, and laboratory work. All teaching and examinations take place 100% on-line using distance learning tools, which means that the student is responsible for setting aside time for their studies based on the dates given for different examinations within each course in the programme. The courses are examined through digital written and/or oral exams, and/or continuously during the course through, for example, seminar reports and assignments. Although the programme is based entirely online, we provide ample opportunities for interaction with fellow classmates as well as lecturers, through our modern digital platforms.

Strongly correlated with ongoing research

The Master's programme (link to official webpage) is hosted by the Division of Sustainable Environment and Construction at Mälardalen University, where a group of internationally recognized researchers investigates the most significant environmental challenges facing us today. Our Master’s programme is strongly correlated with our ongoing research, allowing us to provide students with insight into the current state of the field as well as emerging technologies. You will thus be well prepared for a future career in environmental engineering, including working or conducting research in related fields.

Specific entry requirements for Master's programme

A completed Bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education of three years or more, equivalent to at least 180 credits with a major in engineering or science. Students with a degree in a subject other than engineering or science must have at least two years of working experience in an engineering field. A TOEFL test result, with a minimum score 575 with a TWE score of at least 4.5 (PBT) or 90 with a TWE score of at least 20 (iBT), or an IELTS test result with an overall band score of at least 6.5 and no band score below 5.5, or equivalent is required.

University degree

The programme has been designed in such a way that its completion will lead to the fulfillment of the requirements for Degree of Master of Science (120 credits) in Environmental Engineering

If the programme contains elective or optional parts, or if you as a student choose not to complete a certain course, the choices you make can affect the opportunities to fulfill the degree requirements. Employments and future prospects

This programme will give you an in-depth understanding of current and future environmental challenges, and provide you with tools to meet these challenges through a lens of sustainable development. Future employers of our graduates include industry, consulting firms, and public organisations (such as municipalities and government agencies) in fields related to environmental engineering. You can also choose to continue your career as a researcher by applying for postgraduate studies after you have completed your degree.

Mälardalen University scholarship programme

Every year Mälardalen University offers a limited number of scholarships to students applying for a Master's programme with us as their first choice. The scholarship will cover 100% of the tuition fee of the programme as long as you follow the normal study plan (minimum 22.5 credits/semester, minimum 45 credits/academic year).
